Why it matters to him
Bob spent his working life pricing risk. Beacon Harbor is where that craft meets investing, and he describes his own part as “the inspiration and original concept creator.” It is separate from his children's-safety work.
What it is
Beacon Harbor Capital is a systematic investment firm: its decisions follow rules written down in advance rather than day-to-day judgment. Bob co-founded it with Yarin Kirchen, who leads it as chief executive and chief investment officer. It is a private firm, separate from the children’s-safety work on this site.
How it began
The firm’s story began as a way to fund Keep AI Safe’s work. In July 2025 Yarin spent several days with Bob on Nantucket, and Bob asked him to build an investment strategy under strict rules. The first blueprint, Yarin later wrote, took shape there. In August 2025 a quantitative researcher, Tyler Prahm, was engaged to build and test it; his first agreement ran through the Keep AI Safe Foundation, since the firm did not yet exist. By early 2026 Yarin and Bob had decided to make the work a firm, and then a fund.
The name is from Nantucket, its lighthouses and harbors. In Yarin’s memo of February 2026, the beacon stands for signal discipline, acting only when independent indicators align, and the harbor for protection: capital entrusted to the firm, he wrote, “must be preserved first and grown second.”
How it works
A design, not results. The strategy sells defined-risk downside protection on a broad U.S. stock index: the insurer’s side of a trade that hedgers want. Every position is built so that the most it can lose is fixed before it is opened. Market “weather” signals decide each day whether to take risk, how much, or whether to stand aside; they can only reduce exposure, never add to it, and standing aside is a normal outcome.
The limits belong next to the design. A sudden fall can still cost money, and a fixed limit on each position is not a limit on the portfolio as a whole. It is how the firm works today, not a permanent rule. No performance figures, actual or simulated, appear on this site.
Where it stands
Pre-launch. The management company was formed in Delaware in July 2026, and fund counsel engaged in September. The fund is scheduled to begin on January 4, 2027: a schedule, not a commitment.
Bob’s part
Bob is a co-founder; the firm’s own account is that it started with his ask. He calls his part “the inspiration and original concept creator,” and credits Yarin with the discipline: Yarin, he wrote, “…insisted on more discipline than I did, and was correct to insist that we create a testable and robust platform.” What he brings is a working life spent pricing risk, and the habit of fixing the limit before the loss.
